La Gomera

The island of La Gomera, almost circular, is the second smallest of the Canary Islands. It is located in the western province and its capital in San Sebastián de La Gomera. It is also known as the Columbian island, as Admiral Christopher Columbus, on his voyage for the discovery of the New World stopped in the place for supplies and provisions. It has a population around 24,000.

The island of La Gomera is of volcanic origin. The absence of eruptive activity for the last 2 million years and a climate that favours water erosion have created a craggy relief riven by deep gullies and overshadowed by impressive volcanic domes, known locally as Roques.

There are many endemic flora and fauna species in the island. We must highlight the giant lizard of La Gomera, one of the world's most endangered species. It is currently in the process of recovery.
